Denied boarding on Qatar due to overbooking… how long does EU261 compensation usually take?

My wife and I were denied boarding in early January on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Bucharest due to overbooking. We were rebooked and arrived about 7 hours late.


At the airport, Qatar staff told us to email customer relations to claim compensation under EU Regulation 261/2004. We submitted the request. They later asked for a letter of authorization so they could process my wife’s compensation as well, which we sent right away.


That was over 3 weeks ago, and since then it’s been complete silence.


For anyone who’s gone through this with Qatar, how long did it actually take to hear back or receive compensation? Is this normal, or should we start escalating?
