Tried booking an international economy trip for the family and got quoted 7k per person from Delta for a simple domestic hop plus the long-haul on a partner. Basic economy too. Agent basically admitted the algorithm is set up to punish you for taking the direct routing this far out. Wild.
Did two domestics and a long Miami layover and it dropped to around 1.1k. Same partner flights. Ended up just buying through the partner site for about 4.6k total instead of Delta’s 28k.
Delta really makes you feel like you’re doing something wrong by trying to book a normal itinerary.
