My girlfriend booked a one way flight a while back from MEL to SIN to HND. Since then, plans changed and I’m going to meet her in Melbourne, and now we want to spend time in Singapore and then travel elsewhere instead of going to Japan.
The issue is that she has checked luggage. Her layover in SIN is about 20 hours overnight. Would it be possible to request her bag in Singapore because she needs it overnight? Or is that likely to be refused?
Another idea was for me to book the same MEL to SIN flight as her with SIN as my final destination, check an extra bag, and have her bag checked in under my name. Not sure if that causes any issues at customs or with the airline.
My bigger concern is future risk. I’ve heard Singapore Airlines can be strict about skiplagging, and she’ll likely need to fly this route again in the future. I really don’t want to be the reason she ends up flagged or banned. In theory she could just say she overslept and missed the SIN to HND leg.
Worst case, I could just pay for a new ticket for her, but I’m trying to understand the real risks before going that route.
Would appreciate any advice or real experiences with SQ and situations like this.
