Booked a hostel in Phuket last week and thought I was just dealing with the usual fake WhatsApp messages pretending to be “booking.com verification.” Block, ignore, move on.
But then I got a call from someone pretending to be AmEx fraud. British accent, full script, even walked me through “anti fraud tips.” Slipped up when she mixed up Verified by Visa with AmEx stuff, but still… scary how polished it was. Then she tried to get the last 9 digits of my card. Nope.
What really freaked me out is a Thai friend booked a room too and got a similar call in Thai. Same scam, different language.
Pretty wild how targeted this stuff is getting. I’m pulling my phone number off anything travel-related from now on.
