Booking.com promised a refund, then completely ghosted me

Really frustrated and hoping someone has advice on how to deal with this.


Last May I stayed in an apartment in Genoa booked through Booking.com. I had to leave early for health reasons and couldn’t pack all my stuff, including about €200 worth of fishing gear. I asked the host if he could ship it back, he agreed in writing, I paid for shipping… and then he completely disappeared.


After months of back and forth with Booking support and sending them all the evidence, they told me in November that they couldn’t reach the host and that they would grant me a refund for the stolen items.


Since then, nothing. No refund. No responses. I’ve emailed multiple times asking for an update and they just ignore me.


At this point I’m exhausted and close to giving up, but it feels wrong to just let it go after they explicitly said I’d be refunded.


Has anyone actually managed to get Booking.com to follow through in a situation like this? Any tips on how to escalate or get a real response?
