Looking at a US to Southeast Asia trip and noticed it’s way cheaper in points to book two one-way awards instead of one full itinerary. Example: BOS to DOH, then DOH to SGN. Both in business, total around 140k. If I try BOS–DOH–SGN as one award, it jumps to ~190k for basically the same layover.
Layover timing would be identical, just on separate tickets.
Main questions are whether airlines actually allow this without issues, and whether lounge access still works if both legs are business but on separate bookings. I’ve heard mixed things about lounge access when tickets aren’t linked.
Anyone here do this regularly and run into problems, or is this pretty standard in award travel?
