Booking non-refundable hotel… can I change the guest names?

Booked a non-refundable hotel in London for June (2 nights) for a concert. Within 48 hours we managed to get better concert tickets for similar money, but now the hotel dates don’t work anymore.


I contacted the hotel to ask about rescheduling instead of canceling. They said it might be possible but I’d need to email the manager. Booking.com now shows the dates we need as fully booked, and I haven’t heard back yet, so I’m assuming a refund or date change is unlikely.


My question is about name changes instead. If we can’t use the booking, my aunt and her friend are happy to take it instead. The booking is for 1 adult + 1 child (17, same price). Has anyone successfully changed guest names on a non-refundable Booking.com reservation?


Does having my passport info attached matter? Are there usually fees for this, or does it depend entirely on the hotel?
