Saw this story from someone flying Qatar Airways out of Nairobi and it’s actually a good reminder. Their Nairobi to Doha flight got cancelled and at first everything looked like a mess. Phones not working, chat useless, alternate flights insanely expensive.
Instead of panic buying a $2k to $4k ticket, they went to the local Qatar office the next morning and just asked to be rebooked on any partner airline. After some waiting, the staff managed to reroute them Nairobi to Accra to Istanbul to Los Angeles for the next day.
Not the most direct trip obviously, but way better than spending thousands out of pocket. Sometimes just talking to the local office calmly can actually solve things.
