That sounds pretty strict.
I get not wanting greasy coveralls or heavy deck gear in the mess for hygiene reasons, especially for engine and deck crew. But banning people completely unless they change first, and not allowing them to eat in their cabins either, feels extreme.
On most ships I’ve heard about, the rule is more about condition of clothing. Like no dirty boiler suits, no PPE, no safety gear, and you’re expected to be reasonably clean. But a total ban on entering in work clothes at all seems over the top.
Curious if this is a Norway thing or just a specific captain’s policy.
