Adding my name to the Do Not Use Sixt list

Just adding another data point to the pile. I’ll never rent from Sixt again.

I did a one way rental between two airports. Pickup was smooth, agent was super friendly. I asked to add my husband as an extra driver and specifically asked if there would be a charge. She told me clearly that it was free. The only reason I added him was because she said that.

When I returned the car at the second airport, they told me I owed extra for the additional driver. I was confused because I hadn’t been charged at pickup and was told there was no fee. The return agent said he’d file a dispute and told me it would not be charged in the meantime.

That was a lie.

I never got a call. A few days later I got an email saying I had an outstanding balance. Checked my credit card and the charge had already gone through for the exact amount. Turns out the pickup agent had added the fee anyway and just didn’t make me pay on the spot. Lesson learned: don’t blindly sign the pad.

The amount was about $55 so not life changing, but it’s the principle. I was charged for something I was explicitly told was free.

Contacting Sixt was another nightmare. You have to do it over WhatsApp. I got passed between four different agents without warning. Each one contradicted the last. After 4.5 hours, they finally offered to refund half, and even that seemed to surprise the next agent who said refunds “aren’t possible”.

Then, after all that, I got an email saying I still owed the remaining balance, even though they already charged my card. No one noticed or acknowledged that during the entire conversation.

Yeah, it’s partly on me for not catching it on the agreement. But being lied to twice, charged without consent, and then stonewalled for hours killed any trust I had.

TLDR: Sixt told me an extra driver was free, charged me anyway, lied about not charging it, and wasted 4.5 hours of my life with awful support. Not worth it.
