Been flying Southwest a lot as an A-Lister, mostly for business, and like many people I had figured out how to work their old policies pretty well. Things like refunds, price drops, and same day changes made it easy to adjust trips without much stress.
Now that so much has changed, it feels like learning a whole new game.
Flying out of Dallas means the main options are Southwest from DAL or American from DFW, and honestly AA has always been a worse experience even with status. DAL is just easier overall.
Recently flew to Florida for spring break with the family and tried working within the new system. Booked one way tickets, split between points and cash, picked seats together, skipped paying for bags, and managed to grab ELR seats at 48 hours for free.
Do I like the changes? Not really. The old Southwest policies were much more customer friendly. But for some travelers, the alternatives aren’t better, so it’s about figuring out how to make the new system work.
