Got one of those upgrade offers for 563 bucks or 55k miles. Didn’t love either, so I checked the mileage price for the whole flight. Economy was only 7k miles… on a route that’s selling for about 500 cash. First was showing 81k.
So I just booked the 7k economy and upgraded it. Ended up at 62k miles total for a 5-hour flight before a 15-hour haul to Sydney. Felt like a win.
Still wild how AA’s numbers don’t line up. Anyone else do this weird day-of math or do most people just book and move on?
