AA made me gate check my bag… then I see empty bin space?
Boarding Group 6 out of 9. Agent stops the guy in front of me and says they’ve “run out of overhead space” and start forcing everyone to gate check.
Fine. Annoying, but whatever.
Then I get on the plane and there is clearly still a decent amount of room in the overhead bins. Not one random slot, but multiple open spaces.
Why do they do this? Is it a weight and balance thing? A timing thing to speed up boarding? Or just a blanket cutoff once they hit a certain count?
It’s frustrating to give up your bag and then see space sitting there unused.
